In My Kitchen – June 2012

In My Kitchen – June 2012

This month’s In My Kitchen is brought to you from a very frosty kitchen.  Winter has arrived bellowing large amounts of cold  – not very “warm” and welcoming.  No matter, best part is I can see summer just over the horizon – I know, I am somewhat delusional but it keeps me going…

In my kitchen…

Is my near forgotten Chinese dinner service.  Think we all have one of these floating around in the back of a cupboard somewhere.  It has been far too long since we enjoyed some homemade Chinese grub.

In my kitchen…

Is the other half of the set just waiting to be filled with egg foo-yong, sweet and sour pork/chicken/prawns, Shanghai steak and egg/veg fried rice.  Oh and lets not forget the jasmine tea.

In my kitchen…

Are two of my favourite jam/preserve spoons, even though I usually forget to bring them to the table with the jam.

In my kitchen…

Is my most treasured tea mug which I got from my MIL.  I enjoy my first morning cup of tea out of this mug every morning. 🙂

In my kitchen…

Is a lovely tin of tea which I got from my brother and SIL, who both know what a teapot I am.

In my kitchen…

Are 4 tins of exciting spices which I was also gifted by my brother and SIL.  Thanks Chris and Elmien.  Come and visit so I can make you something yummy to eat using these spices.

What’s in your kitchen this month?  Please remember to link back to Celia’s blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial if you partake in the fun.

  1. I have an old cotton bedspread from when we lived in Sinpapore when I was small, it has little patchwork oriental people on it, I used to drag it out and lay it over the coffee table and make sweet & sour pork for my kids when they were small……yes, it’s time for some Chinese grub indeed!

  2. I smiled when I saw the chinese dishes – I don´t have any 😦 but my mum has enough to open a restaurant. Whenever I go to London we cook a chinese meal but I am always scared to open the cupboard where she stores them as I only have to touch one dish for a mountain to start tumbling out!

    • No, no, no, it’s unacceptable that you don’t have any Tanya – I think you should help your mom out by taking a few off of her hands on your next visit 😀 even if just to help the wobble mountain of dishes so that it doesn’t come crashing down. Have a beautiful weekend. 🙂

  3. Beautiful things in your kitchen this month, Mandy, thanks for sharing them with us! The Chinese set is a classic, but I especially love the cup your MIL gave you. Sounds like the two of you have a wonderful relationship! The tinned spices sound fascinating…can’t wait to see what you make with them! 🙂

  4. Ah! I enjoy these little peaks behind the curtain, Mandy, and smiled that you “see summer just over the horizon.” Knowing that it is just over there does seem to make winter a little less interminable. Have a great weekend!

  5. Love that chinese set of dishes! and i should have looked at your In My Kitchen page before posting mine. My pages always end up as a rambling muddle.. i am sure Celia should ban me from playing, i always forget how to!! Morning Mandy, have a good sleep! c

  6. What a pretty post Mandy! I just love seeing all these things. What a terrific, happy kitchen you have 🙂 (I’m sorry it’s cold there, boo) Have a fantastic weekend ok?

  7. Hi Mandy-
I love all your kitchen treasures- but the mug from your MIL is my favorite- I have a similar mug from my sister that I use often. I will have to hunt down my Asian dishes- I have some in one of the china closets, I think.

  8. Love seeing what’s in your kitchen, and what fun spices. The mind races just looking at them. Sounds like you need a nice toasty fire in the fireplace to go with that great tea!

  9. Love the Chinese dishes, we have a few at home as well but even though I’m Chinese, we surprisingly use white ceramic ware more than Chinese looking ones! My favourite is the spoons though, so cute. 🙂

    • Hi Belle, the spices are from Woolworths and can’t wait to try them. So pleased things are back to normal. Seems we have all been busy – must be something in the air. 😉 Have a great week 🙂 xo

  10. Here it comes, my favorite series, and realize another month passed by. Sigh! SO fast. I love your Chinese dishes with chopstick holder! And the jam spoon…. Wish they come in all kinds of fruits for different jams. That’s a really cute one!!
