In My Kitchen – October 2012

In My Kitchen – October 2012

I am sure the months go by faster the later in the year it gets.  Its seems like just yesterday I was doing September’s edition.  This month, I seem to have a theme of all things small.

In my kitchen…

Are just a few of the many mini vases and glasses I have for single flowers or small arrangements when we have guests which I place on the bedside cabinets and for scattering a burst of colour around the house when our rose bushes provide us with the most exquisite roses.

In my kitchen…

Are individual salt and pepper pots which I use for tiny flower arrangements for each place setting when we have guests for dinner.

In my kitchen…

Are two beautiful hand crafted soap stone dishes I brought back from Zanzibar.

In my kitchen…

Are mini ramekin dishes which I use for sauces.

In my kitchen…

Are teeny tiny mini little (you get the picture) pots which I use for sauces for individual servings.

In my kitchen…

Are 2 small rice bowls which I bought for R5 each at a Chinese store in Johannesburg.  Honestly don’t know what I was thinking about only buying 2.

What’s in your kitchen this month?  Please remember to link back to Celia’s blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial if you partake in the fun.

  1. Hi Mandy, You really do have a mini theme going on there:) They are all lovely but I particularly like those dishes you brought back from Zanzibar – very cute.

    • I know – was having a serious doffie moment – fear not, have just returned from Jo’burg with another 14! The tiny mini pots originally had candles in them. Think they were from Mr Price. Had them too long to remember! Nice to have you home again and hope your birthday was a goody. 🙂 xo

  2. What a lovely collection. And you have now inspired me to buy some more vases for small flower arrangements. Where did you buy the individual salt and pepper pots from? I love them.

    • Thanks for stopping by. I have had the salt and pepper pots for decades so sadly cannot remember where I got them! Sorry. I am sure similar pots with will readily available. Hope you find some. Have a super day. 🙂

  3. I so agree with your sentiment regarding time flying. I had the same thought when I saw notifications for yours and Celia’s “kitchen” posts. I, too, have mini shakers and ramekins. They certainly do cut down on the “traffic” between dinner guests. 🙂
    Have a great day, Mandy!

    • Can’t believe we are approaching the end of the year already John! I love individual portions and servings – must have something to do with my neatness issues – 😀 Have a great day too! 🙂 xo

  4. Oh how I love ‘little things’. Your collection of vases is so pretty. I can imagine how lovely they are with sprigs or flower stems. Those little plates from Zanzibar are cute indeed! White porcelain is a favourite of mine too.

    • I love having you over touring my my little kitchen Kim. I honestly dream of the day that we can sit together in either mine or your kitchen with a bottle of wine and lots and lots of time to chat. Love right back to you in Minnesota dear. 🙂 xoxoxo

  5. Wow! It’s all white. I love the salt and pepper shakers. How gorgeous and so retro. And I’d really like to have your teeny tiny individual sauce bowls too – they would be handy xx

  6. What a fantastic idea to use salt and pepper pots for small flower arrangements! I have a collection of liqueur glasses that I like to use in table arrangements the same way…but now I’m going to be on the lookout for salt and pepper pots. Thanks for the tour.

  7. Hi Mandy-
I love all your tiny things- I guess that is why so many of them are in my kitchen as well!
I like to do small bouquets and then arrange them all together in the center of the table- it looks like a large display until I tell everyone to take home an individual bunch with them. Thrift stores always have a nice supply of small glasses and vases so I keep plenty on hand.
Thanks for the tiny tour- I enjoyed your kitchen immensely!

    • Hi Heidi, I am so pleased to hear you are also a tiny things lover. What a fabulous idea about placing all the arrangements together. I’m heading over to see what’s in your kitchen this month. Have a super day. 🙂

  8. I too appreciate the mini theme! What a great idea to put flowers in individual salt & pepper pots. Brilliant!

What a treat to find a South African blog! I look forward to reading more of your posts. I am married to a South African 🙂

    • Hi Emilie, welcome and thanks for stopping by. How exciting to hear that you married a South African. I recently posted a proudly South African dish – Vetkoek– wonder if your hubby likes them or if you have ever made them for him or him for you? Have a happy day. 🙂

  9. Ooooooo, I love all the white and clear things. And the Zanzibar dishes are perfect! Such a pretty post Mandy, I always love the way you photograph things. Wonderful!

Don't be shy, leave a reply. :-)
