In My Kitchen – May 2013

In My Kitchen – May 2013

I love doing Celia’s IMK posts each month and often worry I won’t have anything to show you but then as always, I find something I haven’t shared with you yet.

In my kitchen…

Is this lovely set of 6 hand painted Queen Anne bone china cups, saucers and cake plates.  They are so delicate and beautiful.

In my kitchen…

Is another beautiful Venice design Paragon bone china tea set – sadly one of the cup and saucers are MIA.  The serving plate is perfect for little triangle sandwiches.

In my kitchen…

Is a pretty coffee cup and saucer set which I inherited from my dear mother-in-law.  I wish I had thought to ask her where she got them from.  I have often been tempted to serve a chocolate mousse or similar out of them for a dinner party.

In my kitchen…

Is another inherited piece from Pete’s family – a gorgeous drinks tray.  I wish I knew the history of the faded section of the tray which you can see on the bottom right hand side.

In my kitchen…

Is the most adorable fishing rod lighter.  It’s about 30cm long and works like a charm to light Pete’s fires for his braai’s (barbecues) and now winter fires in the lounge.

In my kitchen…

Is a kilogram of icing sugar, a gift from my Aunty Christine. Sorry there was no easy way to make a packet of icing sugar look attractive for a photograph.

What’s in your kitchen this month?  Please remember to link back to Celia’s blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial if you partake in the fun.

  1. I can imagine photographing icing sugar is tricky! I love your china from Venice. How pretty it is. What a shame some of the set has gone astray. Irreplaceable I imagine xx

    • I eventually just took a shot of the icing sugar Charlie. At least everybody knows what icing sugar looks like. 😉 I wouldn’t even know where to start to replace the china – not sure we could afford to replace it mind you. Have a super weekend. :-0 xo

  2. Oh I would love to play the kitchen game , I just keep forgetting GRRR! Love the flowery mug.. perfect for a BIG cup of tea.. I am off now to find some shots of the teensy almost week old kittens, in fact i have to find the kittens as BabyMama has shifted them!! Have a lovely day Mandy.. c

  3. I need to tackle polishing the silver set we received about 10 years ago – plus once polished find a place to display. Loving what is in your kitchen – Have a Great Day:)

    • Hi Renee – I am terrible and don’t get to polishing our silver either – it is just one of those yucky jobs! I would love to see what you put on display. Have a beautiful weekend. 🙂 xo

  4. Mandy, how beautiful is that Paragon china set! Adore the drinks tray too – oh, the stories it could tell. Icing sugar is a very sweet gift (hehe). There is always something in our kitchens, isn’t there? I always shake my head at the end of each month wondering what to post about, but something always turns up.. 🙂

    • Celia, I too think of the stories some items could tell – wouldn’t it be wonderful! I also think some months that I have nothing left to share and then something always surfaces. Have a beautiful weekend. 🙂 xo

    • Diane, I go through spouts of dropsies -so know exactly what you mean! Then again suppose we should just look at them as being worldly goods – but that is so difficult. Have a beautiful weekend. 🙂 xo

  5. So much beauty, so much potential! I am not surprised that so much fabulousness comes *out* of that kitchen of yours, my dearest! And the lighter is outstanding, too. No surprise that the version I’ve seen of these in Texas is a replica of a shotgun. Oi! 😉 I especially like the clean elegance of the first set. Lovely!
    xoxoxo,
    Kathryn
