In My Kitchen – June 2013
It honestly feels like yesterday that I put May’s edition together. The year is flying faster than I can keep up with, so before any more times runs away with me…
In my kitchen…
Is more for the baking drawer! I finally got hold of some icing couplers which I have been wanting for a long while. It is so much easier to use one icing bag with a coupler to easily change nozzles to ice different patterns – now if I could just get hold of a coupler or two which are slightly bigger than these to fit my other nozzles.
In my kitchen…
Are 2 icing nails – I have watched a tutorial on how to ice a rose – not so sure the practical will be as easy though – I will practice and report back soon. 🙂 I see much hilarity in the near future.
In my kitchen…
Is MORE glitter – in fairness I don’t have silver in my collection and it will look super pretty on those roses I am going to ice.
In my kitchen…
Is the most adorable and treasured kitty printed tea towel, a gift from a friends who recently spent a night with us.
In my kitchen…
Is Pete’s new Italian coffee pot. He wants to make coffee in it on the fire – yip that’s my pyromaniac hubby for you.
In my kitchen…
Is a fabulous bottle of olive oil which I bought when we stopped in at Humansdorp at Le Chameleon. It is my favourite place to stop on our trips through to Plett to visit family.
What’s in your kitchen this month? Please remember to link back to Celia’s blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial if you partake in the fun.
Ah yes, the Mussolini coffee pot. There is some interesting history to those.
http://www.gallacoffee.co.uk/coffee-knowledge/history-of-stove-top-espresso-maker.html And on why they are made from aluminium and not SS.
Brilliant, thanks for the link Lizzy. Will have a read when we get back home. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
Thanks, you too xoxo
🙂 xo
Hi! I love your photographs. Never a couple of couplers and icing pins looked so beautiful 😉
Hi Giovanna. Hope you have been keeping well. Have a super day. 🙂 xo
I can’t wait to see your iced roses. I’m sure you’ll do great. I wouldn’t have the patience for it. It stresses me to even think of attempting that. 😉 And you’re right, this year is flying by!
I will get cracking on some icing roses when I get back home from our little getaway Kristy. Pete has whisked me off to Mauritius for a wee holiday! I cannot believe I am back here. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
I know what you mean about time getting away … lived a lot of life, but haven’t posted since my last IMK! Such is life. Can’t wait to see the glittered roses! And more olive oil is always a good thing. 🙂
Hi Judy. Life really does have this way of getting in front of what we have planned. Hope you are well. 🙂 xo
nawwwww kitty tea towel!! How cute 🙂 I’d love to see the full picture of it!
Hee hee, I will try and remember to take a photo of it open and post it for your Lisa. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
I cannot wait to see the creations you’ll make with all of your new icing equipment. And with icing, should there be any mishaps, you can eat the evidence! I have that very coffee pot in my kitchen. I no longer drink caffeinated coffee — unless it’s brewed in that pot. So, when I make a pot, that cup of coffee will give me a real jolt!
Thanks for this month’s glimpse behind the magic curtain, Mandy.
I think I would be the size of a house if I had to eat all of my mishaps John. How cool that you and Pete share a like of coffee pots. Sorry if I haven’t been around but as you will see from my post tomorrow, Pete has whisked me away for a little holiday… Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
Er….scuse the ignorance but what is an icing nail and how does it work? My kitchen is very boring at the moment and not worthy of an IMK.
Hi Sue, an icing nail is a thingy you use to build icing roses and flowers on – I will try my best to learn super quick and put a post together of how to make one. What you do is hold the nail part in your one hand and with an icing bag and special shaped nozzle pipe icing onto the round top piece to form a rose. That was very badly explained – sorry but the sun and sea is awaiting my arrival – we are in Mauritius – woohoo!!! Have a super day. 🙂 xo
I love that tea towel! So fun!
I thought you would like it Angie. Have a lovely day. 🙂 xo
I love coffee made in the mocha pot! and looking forward to seeing what you do with the baking bits 🙂
You will have to pop over for a coffee when we get back home Tanya. My ever loving precious husband has whisked me off to Mauritius for a little getaway so it will have to wait until we get back – hee hee. have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
Lucky, lucky lady! Enjoy 🙂
Thanks so much Tanya! Have a super day. 🙂 xo
Your kitty tea towels are sooooo adorable.
Thanks so much Norma. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
Mandy, tell Pete the handle will melt over the fire! 🙂 And I can see amazing cake decorating in your future, can’t wait to see how the roses go! xx
My Pete will never listen Celia. He is of the attitude when it burns off, then we will just have to make another plan on how to hold it and pour the coffee out. Boys! I am quite nervous about the roses, but only one way to get better and that is to practice, practice, practice. I will be over to see what’s happening on your blog soon. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
I guess a man who barbeques in BARE FEET isn’t going to let a melting handle stop him.. 🙂
Exactly! 😀 xo
“Mandy,
LOVE your Kitchen Blogs. I have a few CAT things around my house, too.
Much -Lots – Abundant love flowing to you. Xxx
Best commend ever Kim, thank you! Much abundant love back to you my friend. I hope Kay’s walk was everything you wanted it to be. 🙂 xoxoxo
I have those icing thingies but I’ve never needed to use them. I love the look of the glitter! And yes, this year is racing by xx
I just love playing around when I can Charlie – probably won’t use them very often myself either! Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
well i for one love glitter and I could definitely use that bottle of olive oil!
Good to know I have a fellow glitter lover Belle. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
You have quite many goodies in your kitchen. 🙂 My baking drawer is a mess and I’m embarrassed to share. hahaha…I guess I just love baking so much and I always look for new tools that I can use (or not). 😛 Thank you so much for sharing. I think I need to get myself one of those espresso pots!
Hi Amy, thanks for stopping by. I love collecting new fun things for my baking collection. I have a Tupperware box I use to keep it all in. Have a super day. 🙂
Hey! I used to have a coffee pot like that and used it for my morning cappucino but the handle finally broke off 😦 I’m looking forward to seeing the roses. Are you soaking up the rays on the rock right now and taking amazing photographs for us?
Hello friendy. You can get the coffee pots dirt cheap at Checkers. First 3 days here have been a whirlwind of catching up with friends and a day in Port Louis. Tomorrow will be the first official day of holiday. I did however managed to make friends within the first 3 hours of being here with an adorable kitty – she pops passed every afternoon for a bowl of milk – I am trying very hard to be patient to get some photos of her. Sadly only taken a couple of other shots to date but will rectify that tomorrow. 🙂 xoxoxo
Oh my favorite series (that allows me to peek into your kitchen! :D)! I’ve been curious about the coffee pot. I’ve seen a lot of those pots in food blogs and Instagram feed… I need to research to see if it makes exceptionally good coffee than french press. 🙂 Can’t wait to see next month to see inside your kitchen. 😉
These are such fun posts to do Nami. I am not much of a coffee boffin myself but my hubby enjoys coffee made in this pot. Have a super day and looking forward to catching up with you when I return vacation. Have a super day. 🙂 xo
I can’t wait to see a cake decorated with silver roses. 🙂
Just as soon as we return from holiday Karen, I will get stuck into practicing. Have a beautiful day and hope you are having a good time at your holiday home too. 🙂 xo
Of course the kitty towel is my favorite thing! 😉
I am missing my 3 back home SO much while we are away Betsy – so much so I had to send a message home to see how they are doing. Have a lovely day. 🙂 xo
I don’t know what I would do without my couplers mandy. So glad you found some. Pretty silver glitter sprinkles! Have a wonderful vacation.
It’s amazing how easy a couple of couplers can make life when icing Geni. Now just to practice to get better at icing. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
I’ve never seen icing nails before 🙂
If and or when I get it right to ice a rose, I will do a little tutorial. Before I could find any, I made one using a nail from the garage and the bottom on a small tin – wasn’t too bad but these are so much nicer. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. 🙂 xo
I love Pete’s coffee pot & good luck to him with putting it through trial by fire. It reminds me of my neighbor who put his percolator on the grill when we had a winter power outage…and closed the grill lid. Never mind the platic and glass parts on the percolator – he left it out there & heard a big explosion when the thing blew up – blew the lid right off the grill! (p.s. I’m not sure if this comment is coming through all right. Grrrr…just got a new compuer w/Windows 8 which I’d like to personally return to Bill Gates! Thisis by far the worst windows release I’ve ever seen).
Right, I am off to give Pete fair warning about the pot and fire! But, boys will be boys. Your comment came through perfectly fine Diane – so sorry about only replying now though! Being on holiday has taken precedence over most everything at the moment! Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
Well if Pete won’t listen – just be sure to get far away. Believe me, I agree about holidays taking priority.
I must say though he would not put a lid over the fire so that should keep us safe enough. 😉 Have a super weekend. 🙂 xo
Your Italian coffee pot is just what you need to start making a wonderful dish of tiramisu. I hope you had a wonderful time on your holiday and can’t wait to hear about it. Take Care, BAM
My family loves tiramisu so best I get cracking. 😉 I will do a post for tomorrow on our trip. Have a beautiful day. 🙂 xo
That glitter sounds fun! I hadn’t heard of it before, but recently saw some at a cake supply store in NYC. It’s tempting to try it out 🙂
Hi Vegan Kat. I LOVE sprinkling glitter over the top of my cupcakes. I think that silver is my favourite though as it shows up best out of all of the colours. Have a super day. 🙂 xo
