In My Kitchen – September 2013

In My Kitchen – September 2013

YAY, it’s officially Spring – so very exciting!   Even though we had a mild winter, anything below 25°C is cold for me, so I am super eager for the warmer weather to stick around and warm me up.

In my kitchen…

Is a batch of my current favourite cupcakes.  I never seems to go a week without baking a batch.  What a pity you don’t all live a little closer – I would bake you all a batch too. 🙂

In my kitchen…

Are 2 sets of espresso cups and saucers – sadly one of the red ones on the top left of the first pictures fell and broke when I was packing them away after taking the picture.  I have ideas of serving rich dark chocolate mousse out of them for a dinner party dessert, or possible crème brûlée.

In my kitchen…

This might seem a tad odd to you but after being in our home for 10 years, I finally had the brain wave to add another shelf to one of our glasses cupboards.   There was originally only one shelf as with the cupboard to the right (second picture).   What a difference a shelf makes.

In my kitchen…

This feels a little like déjà vu so apologies if I have shared this previously – is my strawberry scented hotty which Pete bought for me to keep me toasty when I sit and work in my office which is like a freezer in winter – great summer office though.

In my kitchen…

Is my lunch – a sweet chilli and mayo chicken wrap with avo, spring onion and crispy lettuce with a grinding of black pepper.

In my kitchen…

Is a jar of pistachio nuts.  They are Pete’s favourite after dinner snack.  I bought extra to make a pear, pistachio and chocolate cake but haven’t got around to baking it yet.

  1. Oh! So beautiful cups and saucers!!! How I really wish I live near your house so I can see those beautiful kitchen of yours and taste that pretty cupcakes. Poor me, haha!

  2. Your cups are lovely, so pretty. The hot water bottle might be an idea I will pick up this winter. My office gets cold as well.

That wrap looks delicious. I think we’ll follow your lead for lunch today!

  3. Those cups are adorable & your glass cupboard just beautiful! I’m going to have some cabinets w/glass (pebbled) fronts and have been thinking of what in the world I can put in there. Most everything I have is so mismatched or boring that I’m afraid after cleaning & throwing out most of what’s now in my cabinets, I’ll need to go out & buy display pieces.

    • Well, you know, with a new kitchen should come a few new items to fill it too, don’t you think? I would love to come shopping with you to source a few pretty display pieces. Have a beautiful day Diane. 🙂 xo

  4. “… anything below 25°C is cold”!!! Really? Well, Mandy, we had better make sure your visit occurs sometime during July and August. Maybe, just maybe, with a little luck, part of June and September can be included. Remember, Chicago is hardly a tropical paradise. 🙂
I did enjoy your INK post, as I always do. Any post that starts with cupcakes and ends with pistachios is bound to be good.

  5. Mandy, your cupcakes get better every time you make them – this batch are absolutely beautiful! It’s nice to see what you do with the sprinkles and decorations that you’ve featured before in other IMK posts! 🙂 And I love your tea cups and saucers – especially the ones in the first photo – the colours are so appealing! You need a polarfleece sack to sit in when you’re working – if you lived closer, I’d whip one up for you (there’s a pattern on my blog if you’re handy with a sewing machine!). xx

  6. I’m super excited that spring is here too! I would do many things for a strawberry-scented hot water bottle, how fabulous!

  7. Hi Mandy, it is such a good idea to add another shelf. We have been doing that in our cupboards. The shelves were originally very deep, it was such a waste of space.

  8. Enjoy your Spring weather. it’s turning fall here and I am not the least bit excited about it lol. I love how you organized your cabinets though and your lunch looks divine!

  9. I just did the same with one of my kitchen cupboards. I don’t know why it took me so long to think of it. I love how your wine glasses are all the same – I have a motley ‘set’ and must throw them out and start again. Your lunch looks very good – it’s lunchtime here now and I’d love a wrap just like that xx

    • I also had all odd wine glasses and a while back decided, enough is enough, I want them to match so went out and bought myself a few, plus a got a few for my birthday. Have a lovely day. 🙂 xo

  10. Mandy, sorry to hear about your cup crash. Glad you have a few spares and some great ideas for future use! Isn’t it funny how we can look at something day after day (while the “thought” that there MUST be a better way ruminates… sometimes for years.) Your new shelf looks terrific. So do your chicken wrap and cupcakes. 🙂

    • Hi Kim, thanks for stopping by. I cannot believe it took me so long to think about putting in another shelf. Makes me think I should go through the rest of our home looking at things with a different perspective. Have a lovely day. 🙂 xo
