I have been wanting this recipe from my SIL Elmien for years – I know, how sad that it took me this long to get around to asking for it. In fairness though, I could always rely on Elmien to make these for us so I never really had to get the recipe but now, she and my brother live over 1000 kilometres away from us so it necessitated me having to make these myself. You will be sorry if you don’t make these delectable, oh so moreish wings; yip, they are that scrumity and couldn’t be easier to make and I managed to only amend the recipe a wee little bit. Do you always have the uncontrollable urge to amend recipes?
Sticky Chicken Wings
Ingredients
16 chicken wings
2 garlic cloves crushed
½inch piece ginger grated
2.5ml ground black pepper
15ml brown sugar
15ml sunflower oil
15ml white vinegar
30ml thick soy sauce
30ml honey
60ml sweet chilli sauce
Method
- Remove and discard the tips of the wings. If you like, you can cut the wings in half – makes for easier eating 😉
- Combine all of the ingredients and add the chicken in an oven proof baking dish and stir until well coated.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Bake for approximately 45 minutes basting regularly.
- If the sauce is still runny, reduce in a pan and pour over the wings before serving.
They look quite delectable 😀
Cheers

Nom nom nom!
Nom nom nom indeed Vanesther! Thanks for stopping by. Have a super day. 🙂
Always amend recipes……………… ALWAAAAAAAAAAAYS……………………….. ALWAAAAAAAAAAAAYS. Then it’s easier to say it’s your own and you don’t have to give anyone credit. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……….. But then I’m just a crazy Cooking Monster.
But what it you are given THE PERFECT recipe – what then? Like the ones I would give you? Have a happy water selling day CCM. 🙂
I love chicken wings and these look just gorgeous. They must have wonderful flavour xx

A fabulous fuss free satisfying meal Angie. Have a lovely day. 🙂
Yummy!
Yummy indeed Tandy! Have a great day. 🙂
Chicken wings like that are a standby here … you can play around with the basic glaze quite a bit, of course, but your recipe is so much like my favorite way… and yours look especially nice the way you have photographed them 🙂
This is a fabulous recipe to play around with by mixing the ingredients up with others. Must say it was quite a task to photograph them, glad the pics work. Have a super day John and I hope you and your wife are nicely settled in your new home. 🙂
The kitchen is unpacked as of yesterday …. everything else can just darn well wait for a bit 🙂
Good for you that you have you priorities sorted out! 🙂
One can never have too many wing recipes. This one, Mandy, really does sound “scumity.” (Love that word!)
I think I tend to over use my favourite word “scrumity” but it just works so well, especially when something is really scrumity! 😀 Have a great day John. 🙂
Now those are fun wings! Sticky and all! I like how easy these can be made, all in one pan!
It is one of those meals you can make ahead of time too as it reheats beautifully. Have a super day. 🙂
Mandy,
I’m on my way over w/ the red wine! Okay? WOW! I wish I could eat these babies thru my screen! Xxxxxx
I am standing waiting at the door with our glasses! I honestly do dream of the day Kim! Have a beautiful day. 🙂
It looks simply delicious!!! I am sooooo hungry now!!
I eat far too many of these… Have a great evening Pink. 🙂
The sticker the better because you can get away with licking your fingers – ha! Happy Tuesday:)
Oh yes absolutely Renee, this is definite finger licking business. Have a super day. 🙂
These look so beautiful it would be criminal to amend your recipe!
Thanks for the lovely compliment Christy! Have a lovely day. 🙂
Gorgeous – finally I am connected again! I think you posted a recipe and mentioned one of mine so please don´t think I was rude not thanking you…I just seem to be living in a world where I have very little interent connection 😦 Great recipe, anything you can eat with your fingers is a winner for me!
Hi Tanya, I have been thinking about you and all the renovations. If you would like to see have a look-see, this is the recipe I posted of yours :http://wp.me/pT5Tj-1ul
Have a super day and looking forward to reading an update on your renovations. 🙂
I saw it, I saw it! What excitement to be connected, albeit briefly. Thanks Mandy and sending you a big Spanish hug from the South Coast of England 🙂
Yippee!!! Sending you a sunny South African hug right back. 🙂 xo
Oh my, what wicked wings you have there, Mandy! They looks super sticky good. 🙂
Thanks Betsy, these are super duper moreish! Have a great day. 🙂
Finger licking good! Need a bib and lots of napkins for this eating adventure.
Never thought about a bib – brilliant plan Bam! Have a super day. 🙂
Oh good heavens Mandy! These look phenomenal! I know that we would all give them at least a 100 spoons. 🙂
Ooh, I love the idea of 100 spoons Kristy! Have a happy day. 🙂
This recipe is sooooo me! I just love it. Which is why I’m featuring this post on my blog on Saturday 🙂
Hi Kay, that is fabulous news, thank you so much! I look forward to reading your post on Saturday! Have a happy day. 🙂
Finger licking good!
Absolutely right Raymund. Have a great day. 🙂
Oh I’d love these Mandy, I’m going to bookmark this one! And no I have no real idea why we have to “play” with recipes, he only answer I can think of is “because we can” 🙂
Hee hee, I like the way you think Claire, “because we can”. Have a great day. 🙂
I too usually play around a little with ingredients, especially if there’s something really spicy but this recipe looks perfect as is although I might ease up on the chilli sauce just in case. The glaze looks absolutely beautiful and I can picture myself with a pile of these & some fresh corn on the cob – I’ll be happy.
It must be inbred in our DNA to play around with recipes Diane. The sweet chilli sauce I use is quite mild so works perfectly with this and I love the idea of corn on the cob as an accompaniment. Have a super day. 🙂
I’ll have to find that sweet chilli sauce, sounds like something I can handle. I don’t mind a little kick, it’s when someone dumps enough chilli peppers in a recipe that everyone’s gasping for breath.
Oh no, I don’t like that either, then I can’t taste anything but BURN!
Sweet and spicy goodness Mandy. Only thing missing is the grill and some smoke. 😉
Ooh now that is a grand idea Jed! Have a super day. 🙂
Woah…look at that glaze. Seriously can’t stop staring, that looks amazing!
What a lovely compliment Caroline, thank you! Have a great day. 🙂
Sticky wings would be very popular at a cocktail party…I’ll just have to double up or triple up on the napkins.
I would go with a tripling up on the napkins Karen and making at least a double batch. Have a lovely day. 🙂
Ohmygosh Mandy! YUMMMmmmm! That looks and sounds absolutely incredible. This one is for my lunch file….just for me 🙂
Have a super Thursday dear!
I could enjoy these for lunch and dinner Sarah! Enjoy and have a super day. 🙂
I love sticky chicken wings!! Especially in the fall and for football season which is coming up soon. Yum!
This is the perfect meal to eat while watching the football! Have a lovely weekend Karista. 🙂
Yes, I am an incorrigible recipe amender–can’t quite bring myself to cook without tinkering and tweaking, it seems. Clearly this amended recipe is well worth following just as it is, though! 🙂
Good to know I am not alone and thank you for the lovely compliment Kathryn. Have a happy day. 🙂
Mmm, looks delicious, seems the old SIL is into sticky stuff!
Hee hee – these are seriously scrumity – you must make them. 🙂 xo
Those wings looks absolutely delectable. Must make.
These are a definite ‘must make’ Norma. Have a super Saturday. 🙂

I’m the opposite.. always nervous to change a recipe in case it fails.. so I will stick to your recipe as it’s written 😀
Promise this is one of those recipes you can easily play around with Smidge, but thank you for wanting to try it the way it is. Have a beautiful week ahead. 🙂
Absolutely Delicious!!!!!!!! Making it for the second time this week.
